Born on February 11, 1941, in Niterói, Brazil, Mendes rose to international fame in the 1960s with his group Sérgio Mendes & Brasil '66, which popularized hits like "Mas Que Nada" and "The Look of Love." His music introduced Brazilian rhythms to global audiences, and he became a key figure in the Latin jazz and bossa nova movements. Mendes continued to release albums and collaborate with artists across genres throughout his career.
