The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) officially set the stage for one of the most anticipated operatic events of the season with a media briefing for Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca held on January 26, 2026, at 11:00 AM. The briefing was headed by Umberto Fanni, Director General of the Royal Opera House Muscat, who welcomed members of the press and cultural media, offering valuable insight into the vision, scale, and artistic significance of this powerful production. Among those present was Smooth Frank of JazzWave Radio, who had the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations with director Davide Livermore and conductor Fabio Mastrangelo, both of whom shared their perspectives on bringing Tosca to life for Muscat audiences. The media session highlighted the opera’s timeless themes of love, power, sacrifice, and political tension, while also emphasizing the production’s striking visual language and emotionally charged musical direction. This staging of Tosca, originally created as a co-production with Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, forms part of ROHM’s distinguished 2025–2026 season, reaffirming the venue’s commitment to presenting world-class opera. The upcoming performances on January 29 and 31, 2026, at 7:00 PM will feature an exceptional international cast led by Carmen Giannattasio as the passionate diva Floria Tosca, Vittorio Grigòlo or Yusif Eyvazov alternating in the role of Mario Cavaradossi, and celebrated baritone Ambrogio Maestri as the formidable Baron Scarpia. The production will be musically driven by Fabio Mastrangelo, with Davide Livermore’s visually compelling direction, performed by the Orchestra and Chorus of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. Adding a deeply meaningful local dimension, the production includes the ROHM Children’s Choir, featuring 32 young singers, including 16 from Oman, many of whom will be making their stage debut in this monumental work. Supporting roles such as Cesare Angelotti, Spoletta, and the Sacristan will be performed by soloists from the visiting company, further strengthening the ensemble. As discussed during the media briefing, this Tosca promises to be an immersive operatic experience that blends dramatic intensity, musical brilliance, and striking stagecraft, offering audiences in Oman an unforgettable encounter with one of opera’s most enduring masterpieces.
