Oman is rapidly becoming one of the most influential countries in the global luxury fragrance industry, with its world-famous Dhofari Luban (Hojari frankincense) taking center stage as one of the most sought-after natural perfume ingredients. The momentum reached new heights following the opening of Amouage's spectacular West Coast flagship boutique, "The Wadi," on North Beverly Drive in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, a landmark that firmly establishes Omani high perfumery on the international luxury stage. The brand's remarkable success has been fueled by global bestsellers such as Guidance 46, helping Amouage achieve a record-breaking US$430 million in global retail sales during 2025 while expanding to 21 standalone boutiques, more than 1,000 luxury department stores and international airports, and distribution across nearly 100 countries. At the heart of this success is Salalah's prized Hojari frankincense, widely regarded by master perfumers as the world's finest quality due to its distinctive bright, citrusy, resinous aroma. The ancient frankincense groves of Wadi Dawkah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, have recently become the first location on the Arabian Peninsula to receive FairWild Certification through a partnership between the Omani government and Amouage, ensuring ethical, transparent, and sustainable harvesting while benefiting local communities. Meanwhile, the ambitious Ayn Dawkah project is transforming the valley into a global center for frankincense research, distillation, education, and luxury fragrance manufacturing, while the newly announced Wadi Gazelle initiative will sustainably expand Luban harvesting across approximately 1,500 acres in Dhofar, reinforcing Oman's position as the world's premier source of certified luxury perfume ingredients. The country's growing importance has attracted frequent visits from leading international fragrance companies including IFF and Givaudan, whose master perfumers travel regularly to Muscat and Salalah to study raw materials, collaborate on exclusive distillations, and secure ingredient traceability demanded by today's luxury consumers. Omani frankincense now forms an essential ingredient in prestigious fragrances from global houses including Amouage, Chanel, Dior, Creed, Armani Privé, and Tom Ford. Beyond Amouage, homegrown brands such as Omanluxury, OJAR, Majan Perfumes, and Raydan are rapidly expanding across Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East, proving that Oman is no longer simply exporting a historic resin but exporting an entire luxury fragrance ecosystem. With sustainability, heritage, craftsmanship, and innovation converging in Dhofar, Oman has evolved into the undisputed global capital of premium frankincense and one of the fastest-rising forces in the international perfume industry.
